Oak Savanna Restoration Update

We were able to get the forestry mower on-site for a few days in February and really started opening up the savanna.  The snow depth kept us off of the slopes but we were able to tackle the top of the ridge, the flat area to the northwest of the ridge and some of the fence line.  We also began to work on cleaning up the field edges by removing trees that were leaning over or had fallen into the fields/prairies.  Click on the thumbnails to see the full pictures.

Oak Savanna Restoration

NES has been hard at work in southern Wisconsin restoring an oak savanna ecosystem.  We are manually removing invasive and undesirable shrubs and trees within and around sensitive areas; and soon we will be using a forestry mower to remove the remaining unwanted shrubs and trees in the remaining forested area.
